A Weekend Getaway at Cave Run Lodge

Confession time: I haven’t been on any sort of vacation in over two years. Like most people, I’ve had a lot happen over the past couple of years living in a pandemic: I graduated with my master’s degree, moved out of my childhood home, took on multiple part-time jobs, moved again, landed a full time job,  and so on. I have just been constantly trying to balance work, family, friends and side hustles that I haven’t taken a moment to relax, until this past weekend when I had the wonderful opportunity to check out Cave Run Lodge in Morehead, Ky.

Located right by Daniel Boone National Forest and Cave Run Lake, these cabins offer a secluded relaxation spot right by all of the fun. I had the pleasure of staying at Cabin 8 with my dad, a two-bedroom suite with a family room, full kitchen, and covered front and back decks. On the outside, it looks like a standard cabin, but as soon as I walked in, I was in awe of all of the gorgeous updates throughout. These cabins have a cozy yet modern look to them. Every little detail, from the accent pillows on the couches to the artwork on the walls, looks intentionally placed and perfectly decorated (I’m not going to lie, these cabins made me wish I was better at interior design).

The foodie in me was really excited to see a full kitchen at the cabin. I was there to relax, but I was also there to enjoy being in my element! So, of course we had meals planned for each day, lol.

The weather, unfortunately, was not my friend on this trip. It was too cold to hike or go out to the lake, but we were able to drive around and explore everything in the area. The views of the water and trees were stunning, especially right now with the leaves changing colors.

If you’re like me and you’re balancing all of the things in life, I highly recommend planning a weekend (or weekday) getaway at Cave Run Lodge. The best part of the whole trip, if I’m being honest, was how close I was to home. The cabin made me feel like I was on a vacation far, far away (far away enough where I could easily unplug), but in reality I was only an hour away from home. I’m really excited to make plans to visit again in the summer, because there’s still so much on my list I want to check out there.

Until next time, happy cabining!
